A heritage home rebuilt from nothing — and reimagined for modern family life.
This home began with a rare challenge: a Victorian façade that had been completely destroyed and a compact block that demanded ingenuity. Engaged from the moment of purchase, Blu Seven was tasked with designing a dynamic, practical family home while restoring the heritage character that had been lost.
Rebuilding the past with precision.
The original dwelling was beyond repair, so the only viable solution was a complete demolition. From there, we rebuilt the Victorian façade to exacting heritage standards — reinstating the home’s presence on the street and honouring its architectural lineage.
Engineering space where none existed.
With a tight block and ambitious brief, we looked underground. A 90sqm basement was created beneath the footprint of the home, housing a theatre, bathroom and wine cellar. This move unlocked the floor area needed for modern family living without compromising the heritage streetscape.
A modern extension shaped by light.
Behind the restored façade, a contemporary extension opens the home to space and natural light. Every decision — from circulation to glazing to material selection — was made to maximise openness on a constrained site. Even with the challenges, we were able to incorporate a pool, creating a private retreat at the rear.

The clients required a lot from the design, and every detail was considered and informed along the way. The finished home is clean, luxurious and highly functional — a balance of heritage respect, modern comfort and thoughtful planning.
