Middle Park Retreat

A heritage home reimagined into a light‑filled, Hamptons‑inspired family retreat with a hidden rooftop garden.

Location: Middle Park
Architect: Forty One South
Completed: 2024

A heritage home restored — and reimagined for modern family life.

This home began as an untouched Middle Park classic — a heritage property that hadn’t been renovated in more than 50 years. The clients wanted to honour its character while creating a warm, modern family home with a subtle Hamptons influence, shaped by natural light and a sense of calm coastal living.

Restoring the past, shaping the future.

We approached the project as both a restoration and a reinvention. The original structure was carefully brought back to life, with every detail considered to preserve its heritage integrity. From there, we introduced a fresh, airy palette and a layout designed for contemporary family living — open, bright and connected.

A rooftop garden hidden in the roofline.

One of the home’s most defining features is the rooftop garden — a space Blu Seven identified early as an opportunity hidden within the valley of the existing roofline. This elevated retreat gives the parents a quiet escape immersed in Plane trees, with unexpected city views and a sense of calm above the street.

Light, space and thermal comfort.

The completed home is airy, bright and thermally sound — a dramatic shift from the dark, enclosed original. Natural light now moves through the home throughout the day, creating a warm, uplifting atmosphere that the clients described as “overwhelming in the best possible way.”

A Middle Park classic, renewed for the next generation.

Middle Park Retreat is now a home that honours its heritage while embracing modern family life — calm, light‑filled and crafted with care.

“Exceptional attention to detail, genuine care and a team you can trust — we couldn’t be happier with the result.”
